The Southern Ridges – Another World Within Our Garden City
The Southern Ridges is a series of 8 trails which span three different parks and is over nine kilometers long. it ranges from Harbourfront MRT to Kent Ridge MRT. It is a gorgeous park filled with many breathtaking views and stunning scenery! Just recently, my friends and I decided to make a trip down to the trail and we were surprised by what we experienced. We could not believe that we were still in Singapore, it had felt as though we had stepped into another realm.
The scene above can be seen from the Harbourfront entrance of the trail and it marks the start of the first of many trails in the Southern Ridges. It certainly looked like the entrance to fairyland to the three of us! At this point, we were all excited to explore the rest of the trails.! The photograph below shows yet again how different the trail is from the rest of Singapore!
The main attraction of the Southern Ridges, though, is definitely the various sceneries which can be seen as we walk through the various parks. The main bulk of the trail happens along high hills and ridges, as well as the bridges connecting these highlands. As such, one is able to look down at the landscape of Singapore. Seen from high up, Singapore is awe-inspiring and wondrous! Aspiring photographers will be able to snap many beautiful shots here.
However, the Southern Ridges is not just for those who are in search of that perfect Instagram snap. Nature lovers will enjoy the many species of plants which can be found around the trails. In fact, one will be completely surrounded by nature at the Treetop Walk spanning Telok Blangah Park. Kent Ridge Park is also one of the most popular bird-watching sites on the mainland. The park also contains various facilities such as a fitness corner, various look-out points and a multi-purpose court. One can also learn more about our heritage at the war museum at the Reflections at Bukit Chandu and the heritage site marking the location where the Battle of Pasir Panjang was fought in 1942.
The Southern Ridges provides a complete park trail experience for any who are willing to explore its many intricacies. Whether you are there for the scenery, the immersion with nature, or to learn more about Singapore’s heritage, the Southern Ridges offers a wholesome experience that one will definitely remember. As we left for home, my friends and I found ourselves wanting to return to the park once again.
