December: When Singapore Gets Turnt
It’s finally over.
15 weeks of sweating over midterms, the constant hair pulling brought on by that one presentation that was ridiculously worth 40% of your grade, and of course, the immense caffeine guzzling you did that now, on hindsight, seems humanly impossible. A week into the winter holidays and...man does it feel good to be a (temporary) free spirit! In between your countless naps and doing nothingness, here are some neat ideas that the TBNG team has put together to spice up your Christmas vacation!
Movie time

We only have your best interests at heart. If you're doing the eat-sleep-eat-sleep cycle, we don't want to displace you too much and have your heart rate anywhere over 70 BPM. So what better way to spend the holidays than to catch up on all the movies that are being released this month? With a bumper crop of new and exciting films poised to be released, we say you're in for a real treat this month!
When it comes to highly anticipated movies, look no further than Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The prequel, that is set to take place between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, will be about a group of rebels banding together to steal plans for the Death Star (!!!). With an A-List cast and crew, Star Wars fan or not, you will find something to gush about with this action packed, adventure, space opera, science fiction epic. The backstory to the original Star Wars trilogy will be in theatres on Thursday, December 15th.
For more of that sci-fi action, check out Passengers, which literally stars two of the hottest celebrities in Hollywood: Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence. The movie tells the story of two people that embark on a 120-year journey to a new planet, only to wake up from hibernation 90 years too soon. Uh, we volunteer as tribute to be passengers on that spaceship with the Star-Lord! This film opens in theatres on Thursday, December 22nd.
And if you’re looking for something a little more down to earth (pun intended), check out movie musical La La Land instead. Although there's no dancing Fred Astaire, the film which opens on Thursday, December 8th, stars Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, as a musician and an actress who fall in love. We don't know if watching this might actually send us to la la land, but it’s already receiving Oscar buzz, and Rotten Tomatoes' rating is pretty...well, not rotten - so its looking promising!
Mulan the Musical

Let's get down to business! Disney buffs, rejoice: Mulan the Musical is coming to town and it’s sure to evoke all your childhood nostalgia - with a twist! The musical isn’t simply a copy of the classic Disney movie: it’s been revamped for modern times and modern audiences. In this version, Mulan takes her father’s place in the army reluctantly, rather than willingly, as her siblings are unable to do so for reasons you will find out when you watch the musical. The musical comedy from Taiwan features the original Taiwanese cast, as well as local artistes Pierre Png and Ann Kok. The musical opens on December 16 at Resorts World Sentosa, and runs until February 5 2017, with tickets ranging from $38 to $128.

Held from 9th-10th December at Siloso Beach, there’s no better way than to celebrate surviving a semester than to go wild at one of the biggest parties of the year. Whether you’re a party animal, a movie buff, or a Christmas fanatic (maybe even all three), there are plenty of fun things to indulge in when you're not sprawled on the couch flipping aimlessly through Netflix. Happy holidays to one and all!
