A Reminder to Spend Time with Our Family

SMU students have a penchant for crafting well-thought-out surveys. As we struggled to stay afloat during “hell week(s)”, and survey requests flooded our group chats, one particular survey caught my attention and had my thoughts racing.

SMU Capstone Project Qualtrics Survey

“What is the average number of quality hours you spend with your Mum (Family) daily?”

“What is the average number of times you expressed love to your Mum (Family) in the past month”?

School and work commitments often have the loudest voices when we are scheduling our priorities. With multiple reports, presentations, proposals, and a slew of other looming deadlines that any SMU student can empathize with, it is not difficult to see why this is so.

However, family commitments, while often having the gentlest and most un-demanding voice, may be no less important than the rest. Hear them out. After all, who are the people who have mostly extended the best support and help to us in our lives?

I had a tough time answering these survey questions. And if you face the same difficulty as I did, it is perhaps high time for us all to take a break and spend some quality time with our families tonight. After all, lost time can never be regained.
