Didn’t WAIKIKI? Here’s WAI you should have!
February 27th saw SMUggers chase the sun instead of project group members at SMU’s annual beach extravaganza, Waikiki. A quirky pineapple theme that would have made Spongebob proud accented the event that was flooded with lively games and wave after wave of food and drinks to keep everyone full of vim and vigour.
In typical beach game fashion, competitive games such as Volleyball, Frisbee, and Rugby went down on the hot sands of Sentosa, but none as challenging as Tug of War. Rippling muscles and grunts were heard down at the Tug of War station where Kylie Ng, Year 1 Business student, was spotted.
"It was so much fun participating in the Tug of War with my team mates! I really felt the adrenaline from all the cheers as we were pulling and this was definitely one of the most exciting part of the day for me!" she said.

The excitement continued on a high with an array of fringe games, ranging from the classic Bungee Run to novelty ones like Korean Wrestling – where competitors had to attempt to knock each other down while balancing on one leg!

At noon, killer performances were put on by bands Zero Fall Gravity and Sabby and the Cats, followed by captivating choreography by dance ensemble Pineappletards. The acts shore-ly (heh) did not disappoint, keeping the energy at Mempari beach high and entertaining the crowd as they soaked up the sun and the all-you-can-drink Red Bull.

[endif]--When it was finally time for the highlight of the event, The Waikiki Pageant, everyone’s excitement was palpable. Who wouldn’t be when you get to see four pairs of beach babes and hunks strut their stuff in hopes of winning the coveted title of Mr and Miss Waikiki?!
The competition this year was was tough, with every contestant coming out of their shell and pulling out all the stops to win the hearts of the audience and panel of judges. But as we all know, there can only be one winner and the title ultimately went to M4, Reuben Teng and and F2, Chloe Choo! Congratulations, you hotties!

Waikiki 2016 definitely delivered in terms of the fun under the sun factor, and was no doubt a perfect end to recess week. With all that sun, fun and hot bods, it’s no wonder it’s one of SMU’s most anticipated events of the year!
